Spotlight on Today’s Life Sciences, The Opioid Epidemic From Every Angle 
The opioid epidemic is finally getting the attention it merits.  With all of the media at our disposal, though, it took several years for the severity and various layers of this story to come to light. Our program will open with a brief historical overview of epidemics in Philadelphia, their impact on the region, and public response.

Join us on November 14th and hear the insurance, pharmacy, pharmaceutical AND patient advocacy perspectives in this one-of-a-kind gathering of expertise from all sides of the opioid/heroin epidemic. Our keynote speakers from Adapt Pharma (manufacturers of NARCAN) and Independence Blue Cross will join a panel of experts that includes the founder of Angels Against Addiction and a Pharmacy Director from CVS Caremark.

Meet Our Panel

Michael Kelly, President of US Operations for Adapt Pharma
Before joining Adapt, he was Chief Executive Officer and Board Member for Covis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to Covis, Mike was part of the founding management team at Azur Pharma as General Manager, U.S. Operations. When Azur Pharma and Jazz Pharmaceuticals plc merged in 2012, Mike continued as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Jazz through 2013. Mike has more than 25 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.  Prior to his tenure at Azur, Mike served as Vice President of Commercial Operations at Guilford Pharmaceuticals, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ViroPharma Incorporated, and held various commercial and medical roles at TAP Pharmaceuticals. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The College of New Jersey and a Master of Business Administration from Rider University.

 

Richard L. Snyder, M.D., Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer, Independence Blue Cross
Rich Snyder is senior vice president and chief medical officer at Independence Blue Cross (Independence). In this role, he is the company’s chief clinical spokesperson, and he has overall corporate responsibility for medical, quality, and pharmacy management, and all clinical policies and programs. Dr. Snyder currently leads Independence’s efforts to improve the access to well-coordinated high quality affordable patient care by transforming care delivery to patient-centered care through patient centered medical homes, participation in CPC+, and the Facilitated Health Network approach to value based care delivery. Dr. Snyder is active in a variety of state and professional advisory committees. He chairs the National Council of Physician and Pharmacy Executives at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, and serves on the boards of HealthShare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania, a regional health information organization (HIO), Independence Blue Cross Foundation, AmeriHealth Administrators, Inc., AmeriHealth HMO, Inc., Inter-County Health Plan, Inc., Inter-County Hospitalization Plan, Inc., and Self Funded Benefits, Inc. (d/b/a IDA.) He also serves on the board of directors for the American Heart Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Great River Affiliate. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Dr. Snyder is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

 

Dorothy Hart RPh, District Leader, CVS Health
Dorothy earned her pharmacy degree from Temple University before receiving an HR Certification from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently a Licensed District Leader at CVS Pharmacy and serves as an adjunct professor at both University of the Sciences and Jefferson University. Dorothy is also a certified immunization trainer with American Pharmaceutical Association.

 

Brenda Schivito, Founder, Angels Against Addiction Foundation
Brenda earned her Masters degree (Med) in Elementary School Counseling from West Chester University, as well as her Bachelor degree in Social Work.  Brenda worked as a Crisis Counselor in the Christina School District in DE before staying home to raise her 2 sons, John Jr. and Nicholas. Brenda is now dedicated to her newly formed foundation, Angels Against Addiction, and helping to save others through awareness and prevention of substance abuse.
