Irish clinical trials group Icon has revealed that it carried out the late-stage trial of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.
The trial, which involved 44,000 participants over a four-month period last year, was the largest trial of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Pfizer and BioNTech were the first to announce positive efficacy results from a late-stage study, and the first to receive authorisation for deployment.

Ireland has won a major travel award in New York, the “best destination in Europe” – for the seventh year in a row

The award was announced at the 18th annual Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards. Ireland took the number one spot in the “best destination in Europe” category – beating off tough competition from England, France, Greece, Italy and Spain.
Travel Weekly is the leading weekly newspaper for American travel agents and travel professionals and thousands of its readers voted in the various categories earlier this year. Ireland has won this award every year since 2014.
Welcoming news of the award, Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland, said they were delighted that Ireland has been singled out for the seventh year in a row.
