William Smith: “ ‘Philadelphia Story’ is the story of the relationship that I’ve shared with the City of Philadelphia over the past years. While Philadelphia Story is at its heart an exploration of place, the photo series has a heavy focus on the relationship between the subjects of my photos and their environments. This relationship is central to my work, and creates a mood in these images that transcends the notion of a specific geographic place. Philadelphia’s worn pavement, ornate architectural structures and historic monuments serve only as a background to this exploration.”
