Explore the Emerald this Christmas

This year, many of us face a Christmas away from Ireland. While we cannot visit Ireland physically this year, we can plan future trips. Join us to hear the latest updates on Irish travel and tourism from industry expert, Alison Metcalfe, Head of North America for Tourism Ireland. Alison will be joined by Irish Chamber member, Jeff Wright, Director of Sales for Aer Lingus.  Following our industry update, Alison will sit for a fireside chat with award-winning Irish author Ruairí McKiernan.

Ruairí, author of number 1 bestselling new book Hitching for Hope – a Journey into the Heart and Soul of Ireland will read passages of his book, which part-memoir, part travelogue, and part inspirational manifesto for hope in turbulent times, live from his home in County Clare. Hitching for Hope explores a hitchhiking travel adventure he did around Ireland during a difficult period in his life. In what he calls the trip of a lifetime, Ruairí takes the road and hears from people of all walks of life including farmers and fishermen, tourists, priests, musicians and business people. He reflects on Ireland’s rich history, heritage and culture and reconnects with his love for his country’s people and land. The trip ends with a visit to Áras an Uachtaráin, where he meets the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins. At the heart of the story is a celebration of the strong sense of community spirit, kindness and resilience that he encounters on his travels.
