Aramark Staff Transform An Cosán Playground

A team of 57 Aramark staff rolled up their sleeves to help An Cosán, Ireland’s largest community education organisation, refurbish and revamp its playground in Kiltipper, Dublin 24.

Along with Aramark’s Health and Wellness ambassadors, Alan Quinlan and Natalya Coyle, Aramark employees donated their time, energy and expertise as part of the company’s 2017 Aramark Building Community Day — Aramark’s seventh annual global volunteering day aimed at giving back to the local community in addition to encouraging general health and wellbeing.

U.S. company partners with Chinese firm to tackle rare disease

Staff with U.S. company Amicus Therapeutics regularly travel to Shanghai to work out how to develop a new drug to treat Pompe disease, a rare muscle disorder.

John Crowley, chief executive of the company, led the recent trip to its Chinese partner WuXi Biologics, based in Shanghai.

Crowley said the new drug was expected to reduce the side effects of existing enzyme replacement therapy.

The disorder prevents the human body from making enough of an enzyme used by heart and muscle cells to convert a form of sugar called glycogen into energy. When glycogen builds up in these cells it can lead to swelling of the heart, disability and early death.

Longtime local attorney Theresa Flanagan Murtagh is in the running to replace outgoing Magisterial District Judge Nicholas S. Lippincott in the 32-2-44 District Court covering Upper Providence Township and Rose Valley Borough.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to run for district judge and to follow Judge Lippincott in serving our residents with integrity, independence from partisan politics, respect for the law and a commitment to public safety,” Murtagh stated in a release.
