(information regarding the application made by Norwegian Air, as well as step by step instructions on how you can submit comments)

As many of you know, Norwegian Airlines, in conjunction with Cork Airport, have been working to institute direct flights across the Atlantic from Cork. Initially these flights will go to Boston, with plans to expand the service to New York.

On April 15, the US DOT announced that an extensive review by the US Department of Justice found no reason why the required license shouldn’t be granted, and entered into a 3 week review period where interested parties can submit letters of support or opposition on this issue.

The launch of these flights is positive for a number of reasons that are in line with the shared objectives of our various organizations- creating additional opportunities for travel and trade between the US and the Cork region of Ireland, and increasing competition among airlines that currently fly from the US to Ireland.

The deadline to submit comments is next Friday, May 6, and I am respectfully asking that you consider sharing your thoughts with the DOT, either on behalf of your organization or as an individual, and that you also consider asking others within your network that may be interested in this issue to participate.
