Breaking News: Almac Discovery is Granted Orphan Drug Designation for ALM201 Programme in Ovarian Cancer 

Craigavon, N.I., UK, 3 Jul 2017 – Almac Discovery, a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and identifying innovative therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Orphan Drug Designation to its drug candidate ALM201 in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

ALM201 is a therapeutic peptide developed to mimic some of the properties of the naturally occurring protein FKBPL. The development of ALM201 by Almac Discovery builds upon initial research work by Professor Tracy Robson who has shown that FKBPL is a naturally secreted protein with effects on a number of important tumour biology processes including cancer stem cells and angiogenesis.

Aramark Named Ireland’s Best Facilities Management Firm

Food services, facilities management and property management company Aramark has been recognised as “Best in Facilities Management” at the 2017 Irish Enterprise Awards, the aim of which is to highlight the talent found within Irish businesses that have provided some of the best products and services across the country.

The winners were decided through a combination of votes gathered from a network of industry partners and research into all of the key aspects of each nominee’s business, including how their company has performed over the past 12 months and their methods of operation. Out of the approximately 1,400 companies nominated, only 20 companies went on to win an award.

The MD of facilities management for Aramark North Europe, Roger Brennan, stated that “Aramark is increasingly becoming the one-stop-shop for companies looking for integrated facilities management solutions, including FM, property management and food services. It’s no wonder. Having a single point of contact for all required services is a massive convenience for companies.”

The Almac Group has won the top award in the Medical and Life Sciences category at the Made in Northern Ireland Awards.
