Event Recap: In Good Spirits

Last Thursday (May 16th) we had the wonderful opportunity to partner with the Local Enterprise Offices from Counties Derry, Donegal and Mayo and welcome 3 Irish companies who traveled to Philadelphia to meet with Irish Chamber members and expand their networks in the Greater Philadelphia Region: Baronscourt Brewing Co., The Muff Liquor Company, and  Lough Mask Distillery.

Following our interactive panel discussion, we hosted a tasting session featuring spirits and brews from Pennsylvania —Philadelphia Distilling, Dad’s Hat Rye Whiskey, and Manatawny Still Works, and Ireland — Baronscourt Brewing Co., The Muff Liquor Company, Lough Mask Distillery, Teeling Whiskey, and Powers Irish Whiskey.

In Philadelphia, Irish civic leaders discuss Brexit’s harsh impact on their homeland

In Philadelphia this week, a group of Irish men and women are gathered, reflecting the success of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement in bringing peace to Northern Ireland.

But they worry that a looming Brexit — and the British parliament’s hapless efforts to exit the European Union — are already threatening Ireland’s peace. And they wish that the United States, which god fathered the Good Friday deal, would take an active role in its preservation.

They know from personal experience the ugliness that awaits Ireland if the accord fails.

“Unforeseeable Thereness”

“Unforeseeable Thereness”, an exhibition celebrating the strong ties between Philadelphia and Ireland at Stanek Gallery, 242 N. 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 on Friday, May 3rd.

Nine accomplished artists create visual poetry in paint, sculpture, print and other mediums that reflect their personal connection to the captivating landscape, light and people of Ireland. Thanks to the vision of artist and curator Hollis Heichemer, Stanek Gallery is proud to share with you the fruits of many years of exchange, travel, admiration and collaboration inspired by the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, County Mayo, Ireland.

In coordination with Villanova University’s Center for Peace and Justice Education and Orbis Books, the Maryknoll Publisher run by Bob Ellsberg, the son of the former Pentagon military analyst and whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg, with Orbis Publishers, Sabina Clark of the Irish Edition is organizing an event honoring the late Jesuit poet, priest and peace activist Daniel Berrigan on Sunday, June 9thin the Driscoll Auditorium of Villanova University.

The event includes a Program, Unveiling of a commissioned portrait of Berrigan, Reception and Entertainment.
