“Honoring more than 50 hometown heroes at this year’s Hoagie Day reminds us what the holiday is all about, and we couldn’t be happier to highlight the men and women who protect the freedoms we are all celebrating,” said Chris Gheysens, president and CEO of Wawa. “We’re thrilled to be able to support these brave men and women in an even greater way than ever before, through The Wawa Foundation and the creation of a new Wawa Veterans Alliance.”
Wawa Inc. is getting ready to celebrate this year’s Hoagie Day. And what better way to celebrate than with a 5-ton hoagie?
Since being named the “Official Sandwich of Philadelphia” in 1992 by former Mayor Ed Rendell, Wawa will celebrate the 22nd annual Hoagie Day — which coincides with Wawa’s 50th anniversary in retail — by honoring 50 hometown heroes.
Starting Wednesday at 12 p.m., MayorMichael Nutter will join Philadelphia police officers and firefighters, members of the Pennsylvania National Army Guard and Pennsylvania National Air Guard, members of the United Service Organizations (USO), and the U.S. Army “Old Guard” Fife and Drum Corps. across the city.
