On November 11th-12th, 2024, our Chamber had the pleasure of welcoming a trade mission from Ireland’s North West City Region, led by the Mayor of Derry, Lilian Seenoi-Barr, and the Cathaoirleach (Mayor) of Donegal County Council, Niamh Kennedy. Both mayors are newly elected in 2024. Notably in 2024, the government of Northern Ireland has been restored after a 2 year hiatus over concerns about post-Brexit trade arrangements.

Governor Shapiro signs 15 bills into law in Pennsylvania, including House Bill 2132, sponsored by Rep. Mary Jo Daley and Rep. Timothy O’Neal, which aims to establish a Pennsylvania-Ireland Trade Commission.

This commission will be tasked with advancing bilateral trade and investment between Pennsylvania and Ireland, initiating joint action on policy issues of mutual interest to Pennsylvania and Ireland, promoting business and academic exchanges between Pennsylvania and Ireland, encouraging mutual economic support between Pennsylvania and Ireland, and encouraging mutual investment in the infrastructure of Pennsylvania and Ireland.

According to Rep. Daley, this legislation will help bolster Pennsylvania’s economy and overseas trade relations.
