Independence Blue Cross CEO Dan Hilferty retiring at end of 2020; company names successor

Independence Health Group CEO Daniel J. Hilferty will retire from the position on Dec. 31, ending a 10-year run in which he’s overseen a wave of growth at the region’s dominant insurer and emerged as one of Greater Philadelphia’s most influential business leaders.
Gregory E. Deavens, currently executive vice president, CFO and treasurer of Independence, will assume the role of president and CEO effective Jan 1. Hilferty, 64, will remain in an advisory capacity through the end of 2022.

Neumann receives $1.3M grant to support low-income, first-generation students

ASTON — The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Neumann University a grant of $1.3 million to fund a Student Support Services program, which will provide academic and other support services to low-income, first-generation students and students with disabilities.
Jefferson Health unveils plans for $762M Specialty Care Pavilion in Center City

Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health unveiled plans Thursday to build a $762 million, 19-floor medical building in Center City.
The Specialty Care Pavilion at 11th and Chestnut streets will centralize an array of clinical services at one site.
“This spectacular new center is our bridge to the future, where we’ll create the nation’s first model of health assurance,” said Dr. Stephen K. Klasko, president of Thomas Jefferson University and CEO of Jefferson Health. “People want to be supported in staying healthy without health care getting in the way.”
Aramark partners with Starship Technologies to launch delivery robots on college campus

The future of delivery services is scooting around Arizona State University’s Tempe campus after a partnership between Philadelphia-based food provider Aramark and California-based Starship Technologies brought in a fleet of sidewalk-traveling autonomous delivery robots.
Anyone on the ASU campus can download the Starship app on iOS or Android and have Aramark meals delivered.
Options for food delivery, which began in late August, include Starbucks, Burger King, QDOBA, Pei Wei, Subway, Jamba Juice, Chick-in and Einstein Bros. Bagels. POD Market items are also deliverable — from frozen food to health supplies.
